Most Asked Questions About Lash Extensions
What are lash extensions?
Lash extensions are synthetic lashes that are individually applied to your natural eyelashes to enhance their length, volume, and curl.
How long does it take to apply a full set of extensions?
It takes 2-3 hours to apply a full set of lash extensions depening on what style and volume you prefer.
Classic- 2 hours
Hybrid/ Wet-Set- 2.5 hours
Volume/ Mega Volume-3 hours
How often should I schedule my refill appointments?
You will need to get regular fills every 2-3 weeks depending on your preferences. Your artist will work with you on what time frame would suit you best. After 4 weeks, it is recommended to book a full set.
How long do lash extensions last?
With proper care, lash extensions can last up to 4 weeks. Due to natural shedding cycles, you will see gradual fall out during this time frame, causing your lash extensoins to look more sparse over time. This is perfectly healthy, but this is why regualr fills are needed.
Will lash extenions damage my natural lashes?
When applied correctly they do not. At our studio we practice safe-lash techniques and work with your natural lashes to ensure your extensions will not be applied too heavily or incorrectly in order to maintain your lash health.
What should I do before my lash extensions appointment?
Arrive with clean and makeup-free eyes, avoid caffeine the day of your appointment, bring earphones to your appointment, and bring inspiration pictures for your artist!
Can I get my lash extensions wet?
For the first 12-24 hours it is recommended to keep your lash extensions dry to allow the glue to completely harden to ensure amazing retention. After that time frame, then yes you can get them wet! In fact, washing them with lash shampoo and luke warm/ cool water on a daily basis will not only help your extensions last longer but will help maintain your natural lash health.
Saltwater and chlorinated water are harsh on your lash extensions and may negatively affect the adhesive that could cause early shedding of your extensions. Use caution when exposing your extensions to these, and if you do, it is recommended to wash with shampoo and regular water directly after.
Will eyelash extensions cause my natural lashes to fall out?
When lash extensions are applied correctly and safely, they will not make your lashes fall out. At our studio we ONLY use safe-lashing techniques, and individual isolation to ensure your lashes are only shedding with your natural shed cycle. Everyone naturally loses 3-5 natural lashes per day as part of their hair growth cycle- your extensions will naturally shed with those hairs.
Do I have to get the lash extensions professionally removed?
You do not have to, but it is highly recommended to do so. At our studio, we use safe, professional-grade products to remove your lashes and ensure the process is 100% damage-free. There is no over the counter product equivelant that can dissolve lash adhesive. You can wait for them to fall off on their own, but as your lashes grow out, your extensions may start turning different directions as they have become top-heavy for your lashes. Avoid picking at them, twisting, or pulling to avoid lash damage.
I have straight lashes, do I need to get a lift before getting extensions applied?
No, you cannont get a lash lift before extensions. In fact, you should wait 6-8 weeks after a lash lift before getting lash extensions. We use different lash curls and styles of extensions on straighter lashes to give them the curled appearance you may be seeking.
I am getting married & want extensions, how far in advance should I get them applied?
There are two options that we recommend for brides who have never had lash extensions at our studio. One, is planning ahead and getting a trial set done in advance to see how you like them, and see if you would like any adjustments made to the styling. Some brides use this oppurtunity to trial them for another wedding event such as your bachelorette party or bridal shower! Another option is getting them done with enough time to have a fill done before your wedding day. You will want to get your full set 2-3 weeks out from your big day, and schedule a fill as close to your wedding day as possible. This allows exposure incase you have an irritation or allergy as well as gives you time to make any styling changes that you would like to.
If I had an allergic reaction at another lash studio, will I have one at Lashology?
Possibly. If you are allergic to the lash adhesive, then you will always have a reaction. Sometimes, if lashes are applied incorrectly somewhere else you may think you had an allergic reaction but it could just be an irritation to improper application. If you have had any sort of a reaction to lash extensions, you should schedule a patch test before booking your appointment. This allows us to expose you to a small amount of adhesive, and test if you have an allergic reaction, before applying a full set.
If someone is allergic to lash extension glue, will they also be allergic to the lash lift?
No! Lash lifts are a great alternative for anyone with a lash extension adhesive allergy as it is a completely different ingredient and process.
Do you offer foreign fills or fills from other studios?
We do offer foreign fills however, you must book a foreign fill appointment specifically if you have lashes on from another studio. These are built in with extra time for our artists, as its more time consuming to work over other extensions. Also, if your lashes are applied in a damaging way or with improper technique we will not be able to work over them. Please see our full foreign fills policy outline under our Studio Policy section on our website.
Can I wear mascara with my extensions?
No, please avoid mascara and eyeliner if possible with your extensions! Eyemakeup, mascara and eyeliner specifically, will negatively affect your retention, and cause early fallout. It also will be very difficult to remove, causing your extensions to clump together and ruin the look of them.
